Spiegel
https://baldanders.info/profile/

Does this break end-to-end encryption in Messages?

No. This doesn’t change the privacy assurances of Messages, and Apple never gains access to communications as a result of this feature. Any user of Messages, including those with communication safety enabled, retains control over what is sent and to whom. If the feature is enabled for the child account, the device will evaluate images in Messages and present an intervention if the image is determined to be sexually explicit. For accounts of children age 12 and under, parents can set up parental notifications which will be sent if the child confirms and sends or views an image that has been determined to be sexually explicit. None of the communications, image evaluation, interventions, or notifications are available to Apple.

(Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic)」というもの言いには批判的な立場の人間である。

Spiegel
https://baldanders.info/profile/

Free Software

Open Source as a Jonathan

Open Source

If A and B each betray the other, each of them serves two years in prison

If A betrays B but B remains silent, A will be set free and B will serve three years in prison

If A remains silent but B betrays A, A will serve three years in prison and B will be set free

If A and B both remain silent, both of them will serve only one year in prison (on the lesser charge)

via Prisoner's dilemma - Wikipedia

Prisoner B stays silent
(cooperates)

Prisoner B betrays
(defects)

Prisoner A stays silent
(cooperates)

Each serves 1 year

Prisoner A: 3 years
Prisoner B: goes free

Prisoner A betrays
(defects)

Prisoner A: goes free
Prisoner B: 3 years

Each serves 2 years
(lesser charge)

via Prisoner's dilemma - Wikipedia

MIT Tech Review:

MIT Tech Review:

the GPLv2 was pretty popular at the time, but there were a couple notable loopholes some big corporations had been taking advantage of, which the free software people wanted to close. a whole bunch of people thought the GPLv2 was fine the way it was, though - closing the loopholes as aggressively as the GPLv3 did cut off some justifiable security measures, and some people said that it could do more harm than good. the linux kernel, along with a lot more stuff, declared it was sticking with the GPLv2 and not moving to the GPLv3.

via Post-Open Source | boringcactus

and LLVM became at least as good as GCC, and a less risky decision for big companies, and easier to use to build new languages. so the free software movement’s last technical advantage was gone. its social advantages also kinda went up in flames with the GPLv3, too: the software that was the foundation for the GPL enforcement lawsuits stuck with the GPLv2.

via Post-Open Source | boringcactus

tl;dr: say no to licenses, say yes to norms.

via Post-Open Source | boringcactus

https://instagram.com/accounts/remove/request/permanent/

Readability

BYOD (Bring Your Own Device)

Do you keep (or share with third parties) ANY data that would allow you to match an IP-address and a timestamp to a current or former user of your service? If so, exactly what information do you hold/share and for how long?

What is the name under which your company is incorporated (+ parent companies, if applicable) and under which jurisdiction does your company operate?

What tools are used to monitor and mitigate abuse of your service, including limits on concurrent connections if these are enforced?

Do you use any external email providers (e.g. Google Apps), analytics, or support tools ( e.g Live support, Zendesk) that hold information provided by users?

In the event you receive a DMCA takedown notice or a non-US equivalent, how are these handled?

What steps would be taken in the event a court orders your company to identify an active or former user of your service? How would your company respond to a court order that requires you to log activity for a user going forward? Have these scenarios ever played out in the past?

Is BitTorrent and other file-sharing traffic allowed on all servers? If not, why? Do you provide port forwarding services? Are any ports blocked?

Which payment systems/providers do you use? Do you take any measures to ensure that payment details can’t be linked to account usage or IP-assignments?

What is the most secure VPN connection and encryption algorithm you would recommend to your users?

Do you provide tools such as “kill switches” if a connection drops and DNS/IPv6 leak protection? Do you support Dual Stack IPv4/IPv6 functionality?

Are any of your VPN servers hosted by third parties? If so, what measures do you take to prevent those partners from snooping on any inbound and/or outbound traffic? Do you use your own DNS servers?

In which countries are your servers physically located? Do you offer virtual locations?

F-Secure FREEDOME

Which VPN Providers Really Take Anonymity Seriously in 2020?

Read This F-Secure Freedome Review and Test Before You Buy It!

“Zero logs” VPN exposes millions of logs including user passwords, claims data is anonymous

ConfiguringIPsecVirtual Private Networ

ConfiguringIPsecVirtual Private Networ (要約)

Reduce the VPN gateway attack surface

Verify that cryptographic algorithms are Committee on National Security Systems Policy (CNSSP) 15-compliant

Avoid using default VPN settings

Remove unused or non-compliant cryptography suites

Apply vendor-provided updates (i.e. patches) for VPN gateways and client
